Octopus hiding

Amphioctopus marginatus

Indonesia has been discovered that a group of octopuses striped (Amphioctopus marginatus) carry coconut shells and carry with them to hide inside or even fit two halves like a clamshell to be covered with them, when you feel threatened.

The body of the tentacles is about 8 cm, its tentacles reaching up to 15 cm and with them, grab the coconut shell and touch the ground, and as thus can not swim, they walk with tips of the tentacles on the sand.

is the first invertebrate is known to be able to use tools, which share very few animals chimpanzees, dolphins and crows.

Fact: A few years earlier, in 2005, researchers discovered another octopus to camouflage from predators wrapping around his body 6 of its 8 tentacles and the remaining 2 were traveling, walking in a similar way humans. With the tentacles curled on itself like a coconut as the many found on the seabed it was in the polish.

Stomach Bug Morning Sickness

transporting fatty fish plant Gran Colombia

Pterygoplichthys weberi

The fish in the photo was captured in 2004 in the Caqueta River (a tributary of the Amazon found in Colombia), and since then at the Institute of Natural Sciences of the Universidad Nacional de Colombia without knowing it was an unknown animal. It was in 2006 when an expert in this type of fish visited the site and said it was a new species, then the fish was studied and documented, and the discovery was published in 2006 in a scientific journal.

Dato: However, the fish itself was well known to residents of the area, which melted fat inside to candle making.

Since it was found and captured the copy of the photo, is stored in a glass jar along with other species (such as fatty fish Lake Tota, Boyacá found in 1942!). But it has become to find any more since 2004, 5 years ago, so it is thought to be extinct.

Fact: as I read, it seems that fish of this same species (Pterygoplichthys) are used in aquariums to clean the bottom and look, those who have a big mouth and go sticking to walls and the dirt. The truth esque look, but if someone can confirm, thanks!

When I Grow A Beard I Get Red Bumps

Survey

Nepenthes attenboroughii
This new species was discovered in June 2007, an expedition left in search of these huge carnivorous plants. Began the search for Christian missionaries reported seeing giant carnivorous plants in 2000 on Mount Victoria, a little known area of \u200b\u200bthe central Philippines, at 1600 meters above sea level.

There they met other carnivorous plants that were already known, this new species and some ferns and fungi that have not yet been identified. We also found another species of carnivorous plant (Nepenthes deaniana), not seen in a natural environment for 100 years.
most interesting thing about this plant is that it is able to catch rats and other rodents in their big traps, unlike the other carnivorous plants which feed exclusively on small insects.

Dato: Typically this trap is filled with liquid, consisting of two immiscible (do not mix): a viscous liquid below and above water. At the top live other living beings, as larvae mosquito (as seen in photo). Thus, the plant also feed on prey that fall into the trap, can benefit from the cuttings or wastes produced by these larvae.

This video shows the development of the huge trap that has this plant to trap insects and rodents:
